She writes a letter to Sujamal, her cousin, entreating him to come rescue her from the marriage, but she doesn't send it, though. Jodhaa completely resents being reduced to a mere political pawn as she wants to marry Ratan Singh. Akbar agrees to the marriage, as it would bring forward a true strong alliance and long lasting peace between the Mughals and Rajputs. When the Mughal empire plans to attack Amer, King Bharmal reluctantly makes a peace offering, proposing to strengthen relations by his daughter's marriage to the emperor himself to avoid war.

The film won the Audience Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the São Paulo International Film Festival, two awards at the Golden Minbar International Film Festival, seven Star Screen Awards five Filmfare Awards and two National Film Awards, in addition to two nominations at the 3rd Asian Film Awards. Upon release, it was a critical and commercial success. The soundtrack of the film was released on 19 January 2008.
